The narrator stated, "this excited me to uncontrollable terror. " Not only did this show how anxious the narrator was to harm the old man, but also how trilled he was about severing his eye. As the man''s heart beat got stronger his excitement grew and after he killed the man "he smiled gaily, to find the deed so far done. " Some kill because they have to defend themselves, their loved ones, or their morals. The narrator did not have to kill the old man, nor was he was not sad about killing him. In fact the arrator was thrilled to have killed him and he smiled at the old man''s dead corpse.
Finally, the police showed up and confronted the narrator about the shriek that the neighbors heard, but the narrator plays it cool, giving the police a tour of the old man''s house. However, the narrator could not stop hearing this pounding noise, and he believed the police heard it too. He believes it is the old man''s dismembered heart still pumping, he stated "Almighty God! -no, no! They heard! " However, he cut the man into pieces, so he could separate the man''s eye from his body, and it was not ational to believe the man''s heart could still contract.
In conclusion, the narrator claims to be sane, but he betrays his sanity by murdering an innocent man. He stalked and killed the old man because he did not like his "pale blue eye. " He was not remorseful after killing him, if fact he was thrilled to kill him, and his death made the narrator smile. Finally he told on himself because he believed the old man was alive because he heard a pounding heart beat, but this was the beat of his "Tell-Tale Heart. " The tale told heart By donaldwillis21
